Brief history of the American War : manuscript, [1779-1780?].

Unbound manuscript, written in England in unknown hand, possibly in the hand of Major John Cartwright or Edmund Cartwright. The history commences with a review of War in general and the fatal idea of drawing a revenue from America. It considers the Stamp Act and its repeal. The preliminary disquisition (46 p.) concerns Civil Government and the power of the Clergy, accusing the British National Clergy of encouraging and fermenting the War in America. It also concerns the attempts to avert the Contest; the drawing together of the American Colonies; and increasing hatred of the Mother Country, etc. Includes index (10 p.) to Books II-VII (those for Book I cut up and placed in their respective pages). With a prefatory address or letter (2 p.).

1 v. (265, 10 p. in case) : paper ; 22 x 18 cm.
